My Town Friday Shoot-Out / Domesticated Animals

DSC_7268 DSC_7336 (2)
Man’s best friend, the dog was the first domesticated animal.
DSC_7367 DSC_7365  Around the Friburgo area there is limited pasture land.  There are small patches of cattle grazing and the horse is still used in ranching.  Unlike the western USA where the ranchers now use trucks and jeeps – here horses work along side the cowboy to keep track of the small herds.

Goat’s cheese anyone?   Fresh Goat’s cheese is one of the best things in Brasil, but the goats are raised inside – I’ve never seen goats grazing out in a pasture.   I imagine that they do too much damage to the grasses in this area of Brasil with the shallow root systems.

  1. Ginger, first I have to say that your new header is gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. I love your photos, especially of the brown cow and the dog is beautiful. I like the photo of the dog and human on the path.

Brazil is so beautiful, at least from your point of view.

  2. I am not a fan of cheese, I did try goats cheese.

You cattle's head seems quite thin. I always thought that Brazilian eat a lot of meat.

  5. JarieLyn - I took the header photo on a hike I took locally - where I found that very elegant cow sitting inside a fence - The dog is a stray that lives outside our neighbors house and he barks at me everytime I go by... he's kind of cute but a pain in .....
the dog and man is Camillo and Spritzer - they adore each other. thanks for visiting.

  6. Truly you have not seen a goat grazing outside ....we do have lots but I didn't seem to find a paddock full this week.

I do love goat's milk soap. I use it most of the time!

  7. Ann I love goat's cheese - I don't like cheese that has, blue, green or dark brown spots in it, but the pure whites or slightly creamy colored are great. Brasilians (with money) do eat a lot of meat - but the cows are rangy, the meat often tough and NO FAT to soften the effects.

  10. Wow! I could walk right into that header. Give me some 3D glasses and I'm there.

I thought man was the first domesticated animal. I know, we are still working on some of them.

Nice "cowboy" pic. I like the angle and light on it.

Glad you told me those were goats. Every year I have to cover a 4-H Club fair where kids show off their animals. They get a big kick out of me because every time I photograph a sheep or goat I have to to keeping asking what animal I took a photo of. Some of them learn quickly to just go ahead and tell me what I am photographing.

You certainly have lovely country, GingerV.

Hope you have a great weekend. I go back to work tomorrow. I have enjoyed my two weeks off.

  13. I was in Brazil with my family about 12 years ago, and remember going to those all-meat restaurants a few times: first course sausage, last course steak. I ate enough red meat to cure myself of it forever! I like your portrait of the red cow with down-turned ears, upswept horns, and star in the middle.

  18. Ginger,
Your new header is just lovely! I love the people all grouped together. The ranch with the cows and the cowboy reminds me of an old western movie. Small herds are easier to manage. Thank you so much for sharing these photos.
