Man’s best friend, the dog was the first domesticated animal.
Around the Friburgo area there is limited pasture land. There are small patches of cattle grazing and the horse is still used in ranching. Unlike the western USA where the ranchers now use trucks and jeeps – here horses work along side the cowboy to keep track of the small herds.
Goat’s cheese anyone? Fresh Goat’s cheese is one of the best things in Brasil, but the goats are raised inside – I’ve never seen goats grazing out in a pasture. I imagine that they do too much damage to the grasses in this area of Brasil with the shallow root systems.

Ginger, first I have to say that your new header is gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. I love your photos, especially of the brown cow and the dog is beautiful. I like the photo of the dog and human on the path.
ReplyDeleteBrazil is so beautiful, at least from your point of view.
I am not a fan of cheese, I did try goats cheese.
ReplyDeleteYou cattle's head seems quite thin. I always thought that Brazilian eat a lot of meat.
Wonderful photos, Ginger. Countryside and cattle are just so calming.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to try some of that goat cheese!
Great photos! Especially love the one of the cowboy.
ReplyDeleteJarieLyn - I took the header photo on a hike I took locally - where I found that very elegant cow sitting inside a fence - The dog is a stray that lives outside our neighbors house and he barks at me everytime I go by... he's kind of cute but a pain in .....
ReplyDeletethe dog and man is Camillo and Spritzer - they adore each other. thanks for visiting.
Truly you have not seen a goat grazing outside ....we do have lots but I didn't seem to find a paddock full this week.
ReplyDeleteI do love goat's milk soap. I use it most of the time!
Ann I love goat's cheese - I don't like cheese that has, blue, green or dark brown spots in it, but the pure whites or slightly creamy colored are great. Brasilians (with money) do eat a lot of meat - but the cows are rangy, the meat often tough and NO FAT to soften the effects.
ReplyDeletelove the shot of the cow with the long horns. very pretty! can you call a cow pretty? have a fantastic weekend.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, dog is man's bestfriend. I love my sister's dog. I love the goats too. They have shiny hair. Thanks for sharing the great photos gingerV
ReplyDeleteWow! I could walk right into that header. Give me some 3D glasses and I'm there.
ReplyDeleteI thought man was the first domesticated animal. I know, we are still working on some of them.
Nice "cowboy" pic. I like the angle and light on it.
Glad you told me those were goats. Every year I have to cover a 4-H Club fair where kids show off their animals. They get a big kick out of me because every time I photograph a sheep or goat I have to to keeping asking what animal I took a photo of. Some of them learn quickly to just go ahead and tell me what I am photographing.
You certainly have lovely country, GingerV.
Hope you have a great weekend. I go back to work tomorrow. I have enjoyed my two weeks off.
Great photos, I dont know which is my most favourite!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! How sweet is that little goat face sticking through the fence!!!
ReplyDeleteI was in Brazil with my family about 12 years ago, and remember going to those all-meat restaurants a few times: first course sausage, last course steak. I ate enough red meat to cure myself of it forever! I like your portrait of the red cow with down-turned ears, upswept horns, and star in the middle.
ReplyDeleteThat shot of the cowboy needs to go in a travel brochure!
ReplyDeleteSame with the cow looking at you and the goat too.
Excellent photos - you always do a remarkable job. :)
Ah, to be a cowboy! Looks like a wonderful place to live.
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning header Ginger!
ReplyDeleteLove the shot of the goat peering through the fence.
Add me to the list of those who love your header. I love those horns up, ears down cattle! A great collection of wonderful photos.
ReplyDeleteGinger,
ReplyDeleteYour new header is just lovely! I love the people all grouped together. The ranch with the cows and the cowboy reminds me of an old western movie. Small herds are easier to manage. Thank you so much for sharing these photos.
I love your header as well. The shot of the bull is great - he is so cute! What a beautiful color.
ReplyDeleteI did see that my topic is coming up and I'm already working on it. :)
I love the way that the bull and the sheep are looking straight at the camera. Great color too.
ReplyDeleteI am sure you read about my desire to make my own goat cheese! I love the goats, and all the rest that goes with a farm!
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of the goat with is head through the fence. Great pics!
ReplyDeleteI love all your shots. The dog looks like he was a little surprised to have his picture taken--very cute!
ReplyDeleteMmmm, goat cheese. My girlfriends think it smells like stinky feet, but I love it.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great header photo!
ReplyDeleteGinger, feel free to play around with the blog format. Fresh looks can be rejuvinating. Gordon
