I was going to finish up this narrative about our weekend in Buenos Aires Today but have decided to divide the third day – Sunday – into two parts. We did a full day of neighborhoods and public sites jumping (walking and taxis) but I want to focus on just two things; San Telmo Square and the Puerto Madero Waterfront – today San Telmo and tomorrow the waterfront.
San Telmo is the oldest barrio in Buenos Aires. Even with the streets clogged with tourists it is fun to walk the cobble stone streets, watch some really ancients tango on the outer corners, observe a few very creative money making schemes and spend time not money browsing the indoor and outdoor antique markets. Sunday morning starting out in light rain and then having the sun pop in and out of the clouds, we walked the streets close to our hotel, making our way from one plaza to the next then after a stop for coffee, we took a taxi to San Telmo square. Each time we have gone to this area of town it has seemed more and more crowded. Last time we were there there were more tango dancers, this time maybe the early rain had kept them away. This time just bumper to bumper tourists. (no cars – only taxis can enter the out streets of the neighborhood)
