The fabric of Rio, its texture - what makes the streets, the air, the people unique, is the weave of Sky - Sand - Salt and Sea. Life in Rio evolves around this combination of visual and aesthetic textures. Ipanema beach encased in mountains, rocks, grand hotels and people, sparkles with shades of gray green and deep blues, reflecting the sky and sun.
Palm trees showing their age with rings of growth, leaves from the fig trees that line the side streets tugging at the grass, and public art all add dabs of yellow and greens. Kiosks selling beer, water and sodas in bright reds and yellows break the pallet of buff colored sand and drab browns of the rocks. All theses impressions of color please the eye saying 'we are Rio'.
Awesome pictures. I love all the colors!! And your decriptions :)
ReplyDeleteGinger, your pictures are fantastic. It is difficult to say which I liked the most - I love anything to do with water and palm trees, so the two close to the bottom are favorites, as well as the two at the top, and the one of the sand. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteVery nice, I felt like I was taking a walk and saw all of this stuff!
ReplyDeleteNice!
ReplyDeleteHi Ginger, Your photos are lovely, as usual. I always liked the black and white mosaic sidewalks in Rio. Sorry I haven't visited lately. I've been dealing with some issues with my elderly mom. Looks like you had a good trip while you were back in the USA.
ReplyDeleteLove your shoot out, great pictures! I enjoyed them all!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos - I don't know which to comment on. I kept saying Ooh,look at the coconuts - Ooh, look at the pigeon and still-life - Ooh, look at the surf. Never mind. I liked all of them. Your home has lots of texture (and lots of colour).
ReplyDeleteGreat selection and variety to represent Rio. It looks a beautiful, vibrant place.
ReplyDeleteFantastic shots! Wow, that place is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI would have to say the one of the whitewater is my fave, though I really smiled at every single one.
Thanks for sharing such beauty with us.xx♥
Wow, wonderful photograghs
ReplyDeleteGreat to hae you back in Rio. Whenever I come here I always feel like I've been away on vacation.
ReplyDeleteOr, that I need to get away on vacation!
I love the subltey of the sand and the brilliance of the gold leaf! Perfect.
ReplyDeleteFun and bright pictures. HAve a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Thank you for the visual vacation. Here in western Kansas, water comes from the tap, sand is what you make concrete with, and color is green or brown (mostly). Your idea about man-made vs. nature gives me a new perspective.
ReplyDeleteWonderful textures you have there in Brazil...not many of these are found here in Vermont, USA :)
ReplyDeleteRio has great textures and you made it look like a destination, so welcoming! Sizzling hot colours and cool water features. I love the surf texture shot. What a wonderful post Ginger! have a great weekend at home!

ReplyDeleteOh Ginger these are wonderful.. I feel like I had a mini vacation!! What delicious shots!!! Sarah
ReplyDeleteGinger, great photos! I like the leaf especially, but the colors and textures are just lovely in all the photos.
ReplyDeleteOk, I am convinced - next big vacation I am coming to your town.
ReplyDeleteWOW!
It is sad about Detroit, isn't it?
I have never heard that about the police, but can see why it could be true.

Have a wonderful weekend!

ReplyDeleteI love them all! It looks like we could step into the pictures and on to that wonderful beach!
ReplyDeleteThe churning water one was my very favorite. They were all great!
ReplyDeletebeautiful textures where you live. your photos are all so wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite is the fig leaf, and the art too! I just found out an old co-worker is living in Rio, and I immediately thought of you!
ReplyDeleteGinger ...wonderful shots.
ReplyDeleteEspecially the palm trees and the water and the mosiac path.
That's a set of pictures that makes me want to be there. Right NOW.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place! I can almost smell the sea air! I especially like the photo of all the different colored towels all lined up, and the pathway. Oh, and the pigeons by the beer bottles.
ReplyDeleteYour posts always show such a variety of your life!
Love your photos--you really captured multiple textures really well. These photos are delectable!
ReplyDeleteI had to do a double take on the pigeon photo...I thought one was standing on the other's back at first! LOL
ReplyDeleteMakes me want to jump on a plane and head on over. Really nice shoot.
ReplyDeleteThe sand looks just amazing to me. I was finally able to get mine up - I have some sugar instead of sand. You just have to make do with what you've got I guess!
ReplyDeleteWhat a colorful place to live! The pigeons made me laugh and I'd like to sink my feet into that warm sand...we have lots of sand where I live but it is cold!
ReplyDeleteJust dropping by to say Hello. Hello! I have been really busy and have been way behind but I will catch up. Well, not really. But I will have time again one day. You think?
ReplyDeleteHope you are doing well. How is that handsome trainer of yours? Heehe.
Hi GingerV, reallllly late in getting to drop by to your blog and say hello. I really love your photos for the theme Textures, that one of the wave crashing is fantastic. I bet you got wet trying to capture that one. And those two palm trees with the shadows in the sand is really special! I had to smile at the pic of the pidgeons!! :-) Hope all is sunny with you, Debby
