'My Town' Friday Shoot-out / Texture

DSC05513The fabric of Rio, its texture - what makes the streets, the air, the people unique, is the weave of Sky - Sand - Salt and Sea. Life in Rio evolves around this combination of visual and aesthetic textures. Ipanema beach encased in mountains, rocks, grand hotels and people, sparkles with shades of gray green and deep blues, reflecting the sky and sun.

Palm trees showing their age with rings of growth, leaves from the fig trees that line the side streets tugging at the grass, and public art all add dabs of yellow and greens. Kiosks selling beer, water and sodas in bright reds and yellows break the pallet of buff colored sand and drab browns of the rocks. All theses impressions of color please the eye saying 'we are Rio'.

  2. Ginger, your pictures are fantastic. It is difficult to say which I liked the most - I love anything to do with water and palm trees, so the two close to the bottom are favorites, as well as the two at the top, and the one of the sand. Gorgeous.

  4. Hi Ginger, Your photos are lovely, as usual. I always liked the black and white mosaic sidewalks in Rio. Sorry I haven't visited lately. I've been dealing with some issues with my elderly mom. Looks like you had a good trip while you were back in the USA.

  6. Beautiful photos - I don't know which to comment on. I kept saying Ooh,look at the coconuts - Ooh, look at the pigeon and still-life - Ooh, look at the surf. Never mind. I liked all of them. Your home has lots of texture (and lots of colour).

  12. Beautiful. Thank you for the visual vacation. Here in western Kansas, water comes from the tap, sand is what you make concrete with, and color is green or brown (mostly). Your idea about man-made vs. nature gives me a new perspective.
