“I know who I WAS when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then” Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass
When I read this topic, through glass, many weeks ago, my mind went immediately to Alice’s experience ‘through the looking glass’. I carried the thought around with me, holding the camera in my hand, ready for something to show itself, the perfect opportunity.
Thinking that everything we see through the lens of our camera is ‘through glass’.
That reflection are opposites of the world as normally seen and
that taking a shot through a mirror would show a backwards world.
I did all that and did not find myself within. Oops, just popped into the post. Side tracked; will take the thought further another time.
None of these wonderful words panned out – no Perfect shot. So a few photos showing you the topsy-turvey world I find myself in. Views from the upper windows of the House in Friburgo and now the view from my upper story bedroom in Houston. Just as I did when I first moved to Brasil 10 years ago, I now seem to need to find the beauty in my surroundings. I know that comparisons will not gain me understanding. As I once compared Rio and Friburgo to Houston and found them wanting, I now compare Houston to Rio and Friburgo and find it lacking. Alice’s world – the world turned upside down and ‘contrawise’.
“I can't explain myself, I'm afraid, sir,' said Alice, 'Because I'm not myself you see.”

Your post are always inspiring :) I tried to write a poem from Alice's perspective, maybe I should go read it again, very nice!
ReplyDeletewrite it from yours, how you see her grown.
DeleteWow, especially the tree in the lake and the beautiful flowers from a window.
ReplyDeleteWow, so profound. The scenery from Friburgo window is beautiful. I think you are probably missing your life/dreams with carmillo more than the country of Brasil. (sorry). I like your photos and the comparison.
ReplyDeleteGinger, I love what you did with this post. Your creative mind married to your photographic skilss, bound to be a winner. Somehow your post reminds me of another "Alice" quote: "I'm not strange, weird, off, nor crazy, my reality is just different from yours.” It's hard coming to grips with a new reality, I think.
ReplyDeleteI just love that view of the gorgeous mountain/trees from that window, such a nice place to just chill out.
ReplyDeleteI thought of Alice going through the looking-glass, too. Some very nice window-pictures you've got here.
ReplyDeleteLovely set of photos, Ginger.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a thoughtful and insightful post. The window shots from Friburgo are dream-like. That place became a part of who you are and it's really wonderful that you have so many great photos of it to step into whenever you wish. Just like Alice, you can go through the glass or down the tunnel at will.
ReplyDeleteOh course you're not yourself sweet girl. You will need time to learn to life without the other yourself that was you two and you will. Just take your time. I hear you talking and hurting out loud. That is good to talk and share. I feel honored to read your words while you are learning to balance in a sideways world again. Blessings.
