Handmade -

I am not in Rio today but was earlier in the week so I am sure that I have the right to post one photo of something handmade in Rio.

DSC03909

The artist sleeps in a tent or wrapped in a blanket for several days, repairing his creation as needed and collecting a Real or two from anyone wanting to take a picture.  Never walk the beach without a few coins in your pocket – just in case.

  1. The detail in his work is amazing, makes for an even greater picture when enlarged.

  2. That takes some real vision, don't you think? Very impressive! Great shot.

    1. Shabby Girl, haven't seen you around in a dog's age....some of the sandcastles in Rio are truely wonderful. I posted Santa lying on the beach and some girls showing their bum bum before - glad to hear from you.

  3. Oh yes, you can really see the detail when the photo is enlarged. I wonder what would inspire someone to create that, knowing it will be temporary and probably for very little in the way of compensation! But I'm so glad he did and that you were there to capture it in a more permanent form.

    1. I suspect they make good money collecting R$2.00 for each photo, plus you can just through some change in the bucket.... think hundreds and hundres of people a day walking by. We love to give a donation when they are 'working hard for their money'

  5. Wow this is amazing. I'm always impressed with the efforts put into perishable works of art, here today and gone tomorrow. Well... Preserved in hundres of photos, maybe ;)

  6. That guy is so talented! We may be surrounded by beaches but I've yet to see something like this regularly. We only see beautiful sandcastles during certain event occasionally.

  7. That would be a fantastic sculpture in any medium -- but sand??!! Wow. And made better by the image of him sleeping on the beach. Great stuff!
