My Town Friday Shoot-Out: Colors of the Rainbow

(my home away from home) Houston, Texas is the 4th largest city in the USA. Situated close to the Mexican border, it is a favorite shopping city for the (if not rich) well-to-do of South and Central Americas. In Houston there is an area of shopping and hotels call the Uptown, as apposed to the downtown, and the heart of this area is The Galleria. Over the years it has had new wings added until today it is a sprawling 3 story mega shopping mall anchored by a Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom's, Macy’s, the very excusive Sacs fifth Avenue (the 3rd floor is designer’s dresses and suits beginning at $1500.00 – don’t ever shop there, even the sales too rich for my blood), and a below ground ice skating rink, and there are 100s of boutiques laced throughout.

Rainbows – yes colors I am getting to it.

The galleria is a favorite shopping place for me. I look (LOOK?) at the new styles, the fashion trends, the glitzy window dressings and the COLORS. Today Marissa and I walked the length and the breadth of the galleria and found COLORS -

Do you remember a time when shoes were white, black, gray or brown? Do you remember when tennis shoes were white? Today - whether for men, women or children look what I found today -

  6. Rainbow shoes for dancing in the rain. Your colors jump from the page. And a wonderful real rainbow to close out the piece...you can almost see the pot of gold next to that house where everybody is jumping up and down with joy.

  10. Thank you all for your nice comments. Barry shame on you Linda deserves a pair of bright blue shoes, but not any of these... no one with knees under 30 years old could wear these heels.
that rainbow was in Spain... was really wonderful to see from atop a castle wall.

  15. Almost went to Houston to teach. They needed an IB chemistry teacher. Found that it takes an hour to drive the fifteen miles to and from the school. In Midland, I could walk the ten blocks to school from my Santa Fe style house. Stayed in Midland.

Well remember the Galleries in Houston and Dallas.

  18. Wow, all the colors of shoes and purses and such, they just are so vibrant and your shots of simple every day things really captures one interest!! What a great job for this assignment!! I have to agree with NoeNoe girl, that really is a lot of color with some style!! As for the high heels, I can't wear shoes like that anymore either, and how I miss them. It is just sneakers and trekking sandels for me now. How boring. But with colorful sneakers like you found, I could live with them. I have not found anything quite as terrific to put on my feet over here yet, so I hope the style will make its way across the ocean to us. have a great weekend, Debby

    Fabulous post!

It is a good thing we flew from Texas to Michigan, otherwise I'd probably still be somewhere in the middle.

  24. So brilliant! In more ways than one. Your photograpy, colors, and even the very unusual rainbow at the end, Brilliant!

  25. I love your photos! Wardrobe often provides the color that we lack in our surroundings--like your home in Rio and mine in Juneau!

  26. GingerV, it is amazing that you can even make tennis shoes and flip flops elegant. What a photographer! I enjoyed it.

  30. I love the bright colors. I used to spend some time in Houston in the late 70's early 80's. I could only afford to look at the Galleria, even then.

  31. Oh Yes! You captured the colors of the rainbow! :^)
...and in such a fun way!
I have been to that Galleria in Houston...my son-in-law is from Houston and he used to work at the mall.
I've eaten at the Cheesecake Factory there.
    :^)
Thank you for joining my posts!

    Thank you.

  33. Well, dang! How did I miss your colors of the rainbow? Forgive me. I have been way to busy for someone who is retired. Newspapers have no mercy for people like me. I can tell them I am going to be off and they call anyway. I need to learn how to say, "No." But I guess it is in my blood.

Anyway, I want all those shoes! Great shots, my friend. And I love the rainbow photo.

    Your banner rocks, too.

Looking forward to seeing photos from your part of the world when you return. And if I miss you, shoot me an email (kind of like a knock on the head). The summer months are a killer for me. Events and festivals to cover all the time.
