- By default I am retired, having moved to Brasil with my retired husband, but I am American and often my perspective reflects my upbringing in the USA during the 60s. We have lived in Brasil for six years now. We live in Muri, outside of Nova Friburgo which is about 100 km north of Rio de Janeiro. We also have a small apartment in Ipanema, off the beach with No green view. This is an important distinction because property values are in direct relationship to your view as well as location. I go to Rio as little as possible, prefering the quiet at the house on top of the hill
